Cap d'Agde nudist beach: the guide

At the foot of the nudist district of Cap d'Agde, in Hérault, lies the most famous nudist beach in France. Every summer, it attracts visitors from all over Europe, including naturist families and libertine couples. Here’s what you need to know before you go: access, ideal time, rules to follow, and nearby addresses.

For other beaches in the region and across the country, see our selection of nudist beaches in France.

A beach in the heart of a nudist village

The beach stretches for nearly two kilometers of fine sand, in front of the nudist district of Cap d'Agde. This area is one of the largest nudist villages in the world: you can live nude from morning to night, at the beach as well as in the streets, shops, and restaurants. The beach's details, including a map and photos, can be found here: Cap d'Agde nudist beach.

How to access it

  • By car: the nudist district is located to the east of Cap d'Agde. Access is through a welcome center, which charges a fee during the season for day visitors. Rates change every year: check them before you come.
  • By train: the Agde train station is about ten minutes away by car or bus.
  • By plane: the nearest airports are Béziers Cap d'Agde and Montpellier.

When to go?

The season runs from spring to autumn. July and August are the busiest months, with a very crowded beach. June and September offer still warm water and much more tranquility. Out of season, many shops in the district close.

Rules to follow

  • Nudity is the rule: staying dressed, especially to observe others, is frowned upon.
  • No photos of strangers: taking pictures of nude individuals without their consent is prohibited.
  • No sexual acts on the beach: the eastern end of the beach has long had a libertine reputation, but it remains a public place. Controls are frequent, and sexual behaviors are penalized.
  • A towel to sit on and enhanced sun protection: the Mediterranean sun is unforgiving.

Naturism and libertinism: two worlds that coexist

Cap d'Agde is also one of the European capitals of libertinism. Encounters take place in establishments designed for that purpose, not on the beach. If that’s what you’re looking for, find the libertine clubs in Agde and libertine saunas in Agde, with addresses, hours, and maps.

Is the Cap d'Agde nudist beach free?

The beach itself is public. However, access to the nudist district by road is charged during the season for day visitors.

Can you go there with family?

Yes. The nudist district welcomes many families, especially in the western part of the beach and in the morning. The beach rules apply to everyone: nudity, respect, and no sexual behavior.
